Sometimes bad things happen to good people. A few weeks ago, members of our East Sac County FFA Chapter had their vehicle broken into at a restaurant while attending the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. A backpack was stolen out of our school van. No one was hurt, students were able to work through an unfortunate circumstance with their advisor, the window and stolen items can be replaced.
Although this situation started with some bad people doing bad things it ended with some very good people doing good things. We wanted to recognize these people and their kindness by telling our story.
Following the discovery of our broken window and stolen items, a patron at the restaurant took it upon himself to find gorilla tape and cardboard to get the window "fixed up" while Mrs. Groth was on the phone and talking with the police so our chapter could safely drive back to their hotel.
Then other patrons who were in the restaurant started a collection for one of our students whose backpack was stolen and handed her $100 to replace her bag and the contents inside of it. Our student, not wanting to accept this generosity, then attempted to give it to our FFA chapter but was ultimately told to use it to replace her items.
About 24 hours later, the student's bag and other stolen property was found at a downtown pizza restaurant. The person who found the property made a Facebook post looking for an "our student" from East Sac. A relative of hers saw it and posted it in the "National FFA Members" Facebook group. Then a random person took it upon herself to find our school's Facebook page and messaged our FFA group to let us know about the original post and the found bag. Mrs. Groth contacted the original post maker who gave me the lady's number that had our student's bag. Mrs. Groth was able to call her and identify the bag and contents. She'll be mailing it to the school! Surprisingly some of our student's personal items were still in the bag!
What was also cool about all this, our students seemed to notice the "acts of kindness" and talk about that instead about the theft and broken window.
There are good people out there. We appreciate what everyone did to turn a bad situation into something good for our FFA chapter and our students!!!
Thank you Kylie for making our school and community better! Congratulations on your induction into the East Sac County National Honor Society!!!
Today was a very special day at the East Sac County buildings as our students and staff honored our area Veterans! To start the day, Veterans joined us for High Five Friday. Then the Veterans were honored in the gym during the Pledge of Allegiance recited by all students PK-6. As students left the gym, they thanked our Veterans for their service and some handed out cards or pages they had made or colored.
In Lake View, Veterans joined some ESC students and staff for a special Veterans Day Ceremony.
It was a great day honoring some of our local Veterans and thanking them for their service!
