The talented Clinton Street Quartet -- four trombone players from the University of Iowa -- These U of I students performed for the East Sac County 7th and 8th grade band and the 5th and 6th grade band, and then answered numerous questions about how they got so involved in music. Later that evening, they entertained a crowd of over 50 at the Chautauqua Building on Wednesday, May 15th at 7:00 with a mix of jazz, pop, and classical music.
The Clinton Street Quartet's performances were made possible by ArtShare, a grant-funded initiative to bring the arts to schools and historic venues throughout the state of Iowa.
Thanks for providing this opportunity for our students!!!
Earlier this month, our East Sac First Graders went to visit different places in Sac County to learn about plants and about dairy farms. We visited the Prairie Pedlar where we had the opportunity to walk through the green houses, explore, and learn about the different plants. East student was allowed to plant their own flower to bring home curtesy of the Prairie Peddler. We then visited Fertig's Dairy Farm where they had the opportunity to learn how cows are milked, what it is like on a dairy farm, explore tractors, and bottle feed calves. Students were given hats and chesses samples. Then we went to Rustic River to learn about grapes and how you can grow grapes in Iowa. Students were given grape juice.
Thank you to Prairie Pedlar, Fertig Farms, and Rustic River for providing great learning experiences for our First Graders!!!
On Thursday May 9th some of our 8th Grade students attended a hands on Health Care workshop in Carroll at St. Anthony’s to learn about different healthcare careers and to try some hand’s on activities! Students were able to practice giving injections, learn about different types of therapy- (PT/ OT, Speech), they toured the lab- learned about growing bacteria samples and the culturing process, learned about the blood bank, and seen real pathology samples. The students were shown how to draw up and give injections, how and when to do CPR. They seen how the cautery tool works, learned about infection control and the importance of good hand washing. Later we worked with a simulation mannequin, the students practiced “Stop the Bleed” and a mock code blue on the simulation mannequin.
