We were fortunate this morning to have a very large High Five Friday group! The Sac City, Wall Lake and Lake View Fire Departments greeted elementary students this morning. A lot of familiar faces for many of our students!
Join us for a delicious breakfast every day we have school. Breakfast is served from 7:30 to 8:00 AM daily.
Each month, 3rd graders get the opportunity to participate in Pick a Better Snack. Lora Wright with Sac County Extension and Jill Williams from Loring Hospital come into the classroom to share about a fruit or vegetable. They teach the students how the fruit or vegetable is grown, how it helps their bodies, and how it can be eaten or prepared. At the end of the presentation, students are able to try the different fruit or vegetable.

East Sac County Elementary Playground Dedication!!!
Today East Sac County held a Playground Dedication to thank and recognize the donors and those who helped a dream become a reality. Several donors were present and a plaque was presented to Julie Clayton for all of her work with the wring grants and fundraising.
The Journey -
In July of 2023 a group of teachers and Julie Clayton were in the planning stages of fundraising for playground repairs. Steve Nutezman and Mark Berry did what they could to get the existing playground usable for the 23-24 school year. In discussions with Mr. Hemiller and the ESC school board it was decided that this project would be a priority for the district. At that time estimates were obtained and a project design was accepted. Julie started writing grants and asked local businesses to donate to this project. The playground project that was adopted had a price tag of $477,000. This project was made possible by several of those pictured and others who were not present today! Through Julie's fundraising efforts, the school district received approximately $130,000 donated from over 25 different people or organizations. This donation number includes the savings of about $30,000 worth of labor donated by Wirtjers Excavating and Trucking for the dirt work and site prep. The school district used capital project funds to pay for the remaining $350,000 balance.
Thank you to all of the donors and Julie for helping bring an awesome playground to ESC that our East Sac County students can enjoy, be proud of, and is accessible for all!!!
Last week, East Sac County FCCLA members attended the Iowa FCCLA fall rally held at Iowa Central Community College today. The 28 members participated in workshops, community service, and contests. Keylee Dixon and Emily Slater prepared a cheese dip for the dip challenge. Kinzie Erpelding cooked her Dill Pickle Wrap Grilled Cheese in the Grilled Cheese Challenge and earned 3rd place and a spot on the competition team at the State FCCLA Leadership Conference next March. Madison Meister and Avaloyn Dontje prepared a Corny Cheese Dip and earned third place!

In Ms. Miranda's 2nd Grade Social Studies, we are working on answering the essential question, "Why do we have rules and laws?" The kids had an opportunity to work in groups to discuss ways to solve the hypothetical problem of litter out on the playground. Working together to solve problems is great skill, even at a young age!
Last Spring, Landon Sporrer applied to serve on the 2024-25 IHSAA Student Advisory Committee. After a selection process, Landon earned his way on the IHSAA Student Advisory Committee and now represents East Sac County and student athletes at the state level. We are proud of him and this accomplishment. Last week, the committee had their Fall meeting and took part in activities, discussion and developing initiatives. They learned about IHSAA Education and Communication programs, discussed the role of the Student Advisory Committee , offered perspective on current IHSAA topics, and set goals for the 2024-25 school year. Student Advisory Committee members also interacted with members of the IHSADA executive committee who were also meeting in our offices.
The East Sac County Dance Team would like to thank everyone for the generosity that was shown Friday night with Fill the Truck Food Donation Event for our local food pantry. A total of 375 items and $896 was collected. With that much being collected, the Knights of Columbus added an additional $100. Thank you!!!
